A Global Framework for Encryption and Security: "Global Trust Services Infrastructure" - presented by Keith Chapple - FEI and Peter Dare, IBM (UK). Due to the short time available for review, acceptance of the paper was postponed and member representatives were requested to study it in detail and submit their comments to FEI. It is intended to be table for acceptance at the next meeting. |

Numbers for a New Economy - Why the Information Society Needs New Economic Measurements" - conceptional paper presented by Mr. Leslie D. Simon of the Woodrow Wilson Center, USA on behalf of ITI -USA The paper was met with great interest by all participants and ITI was encouraged to further develop this concept. |

Electronic Marketplace - "Trade Facilitation and Information
Technology - How Regulation can Best Facilitate International
Commerce" - presented by William A. Maxwell, Hewlett Packard, USA on behalf of issue owning country - ITI - USA Though the paper was discussed during previous meetings, at the request of participants it will require further study and review. It will be tabled for acceptance at the next meeting, and hence has been classified FINAL DRAFT. |
| 4. | Product take back he issue of product take back and related obligations for manufacturers of IT products as addressed in the draft EU directive on waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) was presented by Dr. Reinhard Hohn, IBM Germany. IIIC gave the mandate to the task force on environment to prepare a Common View Paper on this subject. |
| 5. | A Global Action Plan for Business with
Governments towards Electronic Commerce - prepared by OECD - GIIC - ICC - INTUG - WITSA - ILPF. This initiative which was prepared by BIAC, GIIC, ICC, INTUG, WITSA and supported by a number of international organisations, including Eurobit, and intended to be submitted to the forthcoming OECD Ministerial Conference on Electronic Commerce in Ottawa, October 7-9, was met with much interest. However, due to the fact, that there was no time for a detailed review of the paper, an official and common IIIC declaration of support could not be reached. (Members were asked to review the action plan and confirm their support within two weeks. |
